I've always been thrilled by glass and its bright luminosity, its subtle movement, and its sensitivity to the mysteries of the soul and the wonders of the imagination. It is at the same time jewel-hard and soft, it reflects and penetrates, emitting light from an unknown interior. Coming from a culture where textiles play an integral part of our daily life, I started working with the idea of merging textile and glass, using a variety of laces and metallic wires to achieve different effects.
My first source of inspiration came from the Latin American ponchos and guipiles. However, since arriving in New Zealand I started realizing that my works are developing a certain marine flavour. They remind me of fish scales and underwater sceneries. It's something that has happened very slowly, allowing me to enjoy the delicacy of discovering how the surroundings influence artistic work.
